Five years ago, Olivia Mullin (Olly) died at work in London, England, from Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP).

Married, with two children aged two years nine months and 19 months, she was just 31 years old and, until her death on 15th January 2007, had been a very active, sporty, businesswoman, wife and mother.

As a direct result of Olly's death, her sister Tamzin and Dr. Elizabeth Donner co-founded the organization SUDEP Aware, in Canada, to raise awareness and understanding of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy. This not-for-profit's ultimate goal is to identify the cause(s) of SUDEP, to inform and educate people with epilepsy, relatives and healthcare providers about SUDEP and to help to try and prevent it.

To mark the passing of five years, in April this year Olly’s sister Michélle Sturtridge ran the London Marathon, raising money for Epilepsy Research UK.

In addition, next month Olly’s father, Paul Jeffs (66), is travelling to Canada to Cycle for Olly. He plans to cycle 500km from London (Canada) to Toronto, via the shores of Lakes Erie and Ontario. He will be accompanied on this epic six-day ride by Tamzin’s husband, David Himsworth (41), together with other friends and family members at various points along the way.

How You Can Help

There are several ways to help the Cycle for Olly team raise awareness and funds to support SUDEP Aware:

  • Buy a Cycle for Olly T-shirt, or
  • Sponsor the cyclists, or
  • Turn out with your friends and family at one of the six daily start points and give the cyclists a great send-off, (see details below) or
  • Forward this to your friends and family
  • Do all of the above! ;o)

T-shirts may be ordered and pre-paid via PayPal, on the SUDEP Aware website. They can be mailed to you, for a small postage and packing fee, or you may elect to collect your T-shirt at any one of the departure points on the Cycle for Olly route which you nominate.

For further information on all these options, please contact SUDEP Aware on Tel: 1-855-85-SUDEP (78337) or via email.
